Watermelons

“The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”
We’ll come back to this but first: watermelon. Was thinking about how much joy comes with eating watermelon. One of the first signs that summer really Is here. It’s like a confirmation every year that summer has started. It brings so much pleasure to sit outside on the back porch with friends and family and the neighborhood kids enjoying the cool slice of watermelon. Laughing at the kids spitting seeds at each other’s faces and joining in the ridiculous game every once in a while. It is almost like the simple pleasure of eating watermelon pauses every problem and every struggle and every worry for just a few moments. I cannot think of one time that I have ever been distraught or discouraged of just sad while, and after, eating watermelon. I always feel a sense of contentment, like everything is ok. I am reminded of Psalm 149:4 that says God delights in His people. He made us for His pleasure, His enjoyment. The delight I find in eating watermelon, or in taking walks through nature, or in being surrounded by people that I love is tiny in comparison to the delight The Lord finds in me. It is tiny in comparison to the delight He has in you. He enjoys us. We bring Him pleasure. God’s desire is to lift us up, set us on His Papa lap, and enjoy us as we enjoy Him. We glorify Him. He lifts us up. He enjoys us. We enjoy Him. Everything is gonna be ok.
